The HTML code for a link typically looks something like this:
<a href="http://gardenwonders.com">Trees, Shrubs and Garden Supplies</a> - All the gardening and landscaping supplies you'll need in one place.
At the beginning, in quotes after "href=", you will find the link's URL. This is the URL of the site that a visitor will be directed to when they click on the link. After the URL, and before the "</a>", is the link's "anchor text" -- that is, the clickable text of the link itself. Finally, after the "</a>", will (optionally) be a site description: a line or two of text that will follow the link, and describes the site. So, in simplified form, the HTML code for a link works something like this:
<a href="URL">LINK ANCHOR TEXT</a> - DESCRIPTION
Sometimes link code will have additional tags such as <p>, <strong>, <i> or others. These just change the look of the text and can be ignored.
To add a site by hand given the HTML code for a link, go to "Add Sites to the List", select "Add a site by hand" and click "Continue".
On the form that comes up, under "Site URL", enter the site's URL (found in the link code in quotes after 'href=').
Under "Site Name", enter the link's anchor text (found in the link code after the URL and before the '</a>').
Under "Site Description", enter the link's description, found after the '</a>'.
Under "Contact Name" and "Contact E-mail", enter the name and e-mail address of the webmaster of the site you are adding a link to, only if you have this information. If you don't have it, you can leave these blank.
Under "Reciprocal Link URL", enter the URL of the page on the site that you are linking to, where there is a link back to your site. If there is no link back to your site from the other site, leave this blank.
Under "Site Category", choose the category that best describes the site you are adding a link to.
For status, choose one of the following: Choose "No e-mail address" if you don't have the webmaster e-mail address for the link you are adding. Choose "E-mail not yet sent", if you DO have the e-mail address, and intend to send a link exchange invitation e-mail. Choose "Link exchange complete" if there is already a link on that site linking back to your site, and you have the "Reciprocal link URL", that is, the URL of the page that has the link back to your site. Choose "One way link" if you want to link to this site from your site, but do not expect a link back from their site to yours in return.
Once you are done filling in this form, click "Submit" to add the new link to LinkMachine.
